Howdy! I'm Anjelica Cantu. As an artist,
I am most passionate about Ceramics and Printmaking, though I do tend to explore all forms of mediums across the arts.
I explore the fluid and evolving nature of identity through ceramics, relief prints, and sketches. Each piece reflects emotions often associated with the experience of womanhood, capturing moments of joy, pain, and the unspoken spaces in between.
In my ceramics, slab cuts are used to create texture and form, while the relief prints depict varied representations of women’s faces and figures, each embodying a unique aspect of identity. Vibrant, contrasting colors combined with opaque blacks invite viewers to consider the multiple perspectives within the experience of womanhood, emphasizing that it is multifaceted and never one-sided.
The focus on womanhood feels especially urgent in the current political climate, where women’s rights and voices are increasingly challenged and silenced. Womanhood is constantly shifting, both in personal experience and in the broader social landscape. This ongoing process of discovery and expression drives my work, which seeks to bridge the personal and the collective, connecting individual identity with the ever-changing forces that shape society.
